1. Sos lár–téarma

Beidh an scoil dúnta ar an Déardaoin, 18/2/’15 agus an Aoine, 19/2/’15 – sos lár téarma.

The school will be closed on Thursday, 18/2/’15 and Friday, 19/2/’15 – mid-term break.

 

2. Maidin Oscailte

Beidh maidin oscailte ar siúl ar an 27ú Feabhra 11 – 1 i.n. Beidh fáilte roimh naíonáin nua do Méan Fómhair 2016 agus 2017.
Our open morning for new Junior Infants September 2016 will take place on Saturday, 27th February 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. All prospective children for September 2016/2017 are very welcome to attend with their parents. Please let your friends with young children know as we would love to have a large crowd viewing our school.

 

3. Ceardlann Fuinnimh

Bhí ceardlann ag gach rang le déanaí. Niamh O’Connor a bhí i gceannas ar an gceardlann agus bhain na páistí idir tairbhe agus taitneamh as.
All classes enjoyed a workshop on energy given by Niamh O’ Connor. The teachers also had a workshop after school on this topic. This is all part of our work towards the Green Flag.


4. Sábháilteacht ar an idirlíon

Labhair Garda John O’Connor leis na páistí i rang 4/5/6 faoi sábháilteacht ar an idirlíon.
Garda John O’Connor spoke to children in the senior classes regarding safety on the internet.


5. Fleadh Chontae/ County Fleadh

Beidh an Fleadh Chontae ar siúl in Ailfionn ar Luan Cásca. Má tá suim ag do pháiste páirt a ghlacadh ann tá foirmeacha iontrála agam.

The County Fleadh takes place in Elphin on Easter Monday. Entries need to be with the County Secretary by the end of this month, there are competitions in singing, music, dance and comhrá Gaeilge. If your child is interested in taking part I have entry forms. I will only be forwarding those entries that I receive before the midterm break.

 

6. Tráth na gCeist / Credit Union quiz competition

Comhghairdeas leis ár bhfoireann tráth na gceist a bhuaigh an comórtas faoi 11 agus a fuair an tríú háit sa chomórtas faoi 13.
Congrats to our Credit Union quiz teams. Our under 11 team (Aisling, Martha, Ruairí and Ethan) won the local quiz competition and are progressing to the next round in March. Our Under 13 team (Síoda, Saoirse, Finn and Liam) were placed tied for third place but unfortunately they lost out in the tie-break questions to Fourmilehouse N.S. Well done to the children and to Múinteoir Éanna for preparing them.


7. Gearmánais sa scoil eTwinning – Gradam “Lipéad Náisiúnta”

Fuair Múinteoir Amy agus rang a sé gradam 'Lipéad Náisiúnta' anuraidh don obair a rinne siad don tionscadal eTwinning “Feste feiern rund ums Jahr. Sitten und Traditionen in Deutschland, Irland und Polen“ „Festivals, Holidays and Traditions around the year in Ireland, Germany and Poland“. Tá rang a sé ag glacadh páirte i dtionscadal eTwinning”Das Schulleben in Irland, Polen und Deutschland“ – School life in Ireland, Poland and Germany“.Tá said ag obair le chéile ar an tionscadal le scoil i Toruń, sa Pholainn. Is í Gearmáinis teanga an tionscadal. Ghlac rang 5 agus rang 6 páirt ins an Eu Day of Languages comórtas le déanaí. Scríobh siad leathanach, i nGearmáinis, as dialann Anne Frank. Rinne siad an-jab agus cé nach raibh an bua againn, bhí obair Síoda, rang 6 agus obair Moya, rang 5, gearrliostaithe. Maith sibh! Bhí rang 5 an sásta le déanaí cartaí Nollag a fháil sa phost ón ár gcairde ins an Gesamtschule, Weilerswist, An Ghearmáin.
Múinteoir Amy and 6th class received its second National Quality Label for their eTwinning project last year – “Festivals, Holidays and Traditions around the year in Ireland, Germany and Poland”. Sixth class are currently paticipating in an eTwinning project with Zespol Szkol Ogolnoksztalcacych in Toruń, Poland. The name of the project is “School life in Ireland, Poland and Germany” and all project activities are carried out in German. 
Fifth and sixth class recently participated in the EU Day of Languages competition. They wrote and illustrated a page, in German, from the diary of Anne Frank. We didn’t win the overall competition but the judges from Léargas were very impressed with the school’s entries and Síoda‘s (6th Class) and Moya’s (5th Class) work were among the shortlisted entries. Well done! 5th class pupils were delighted to receive Christmas cards recently from their friends in the Gesamtschule, Weilerswist, An Ghearmáin.
