Buntáistí a bhaineann le foghlaim na nua-theangacha:

Tá neart cúiseanna ann a léiríonn an tairbhe a bhaineann le nua-theangacha éagsúla a fhoghlaim ag an mbunleibhéal. Léiríonn taighde go bhfuil páistí le cur amach acu ar theangacha éagsúla ó aois óg ina bhfoghlaimeoirí teanga níos fearr. Taispeánann sé chomh maith gur féidir le sealbhú teanga nua foghlaim sna hábhair churaclaim eile a éascú. Nótálann torthaí measúnaithe an MLPSI (Tionscadal na Nuatheangacha i mBunscoileanna) an tionchar dearfach a imríonn seo ar dhaltaí, ní hamháin i dtéarmaí teangeolaíochta agus acadúla, ach ó thaobh féinmheasa, féinmhuiníne agus ullmhúcháin don oideachas dara leibhéil.

Chomh maith le feabhas a chur ar scileanna litearthachta na ndaltaí sa mháthair-theanga, spreagann foghlaim teangacha feasacht níos fearr ar theangacha eile agus níos mó oscailteachta i leith cultúrtha agus teangacha éagsúla. Is féidir l seo cur go mór le réimsí eolais na bpáistí agus le comhtháthú sóisialta agus cultúrtha níos fearr i gcomhthéacs scoile agus pobail.

German in the school

Fifth and sixth class not only learn Irish but also a modern foreign language -German- in Gaelscoil de hÍde.  The school also participates in eTwinning , which facilitates collaborative projects between schools in Europe. We received the National Quality Label for our 2014 eTwinning project "Mit Haenden und Fuessen reden-Koerpersprache", in which the children completed tasks around the topic of body language. We used the languages Irish, German, Polish and English throughout the project!

100 million people speak German as their native language-more than any other language in Europe. These include not only residents of Germany and Austria but also significant populations in Switzerland, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, northern Italy and elsewhere. German is also a second language for many others, particularly in Eastern Europe. One in ten books currently published in the world comes from Germany. Significantly, German also maintains a high internet presence.

Benefits of modern language learning:

There are many reasons why the learning of another modern language at primary school is beneficial for children.  Research has shown that children who are introduced to other languages from an early age can become more proficient language learners and that learning another language can have positive effects on the learning of other curriculum subjects. Learning more languages also leads to an enhanced awareness of and openness to other languages and cultures. Learning another language in primary school will help ensure that your child has the necessary skills and strategies to help him/her with their language learning at second level.
